I seen several pieces of metal art at a craft store and they had an Iridescent finish to them. I don't know who the owner of the booth was to ask them how it was done. Can any one tell me how to create this finish?
Thanks.

Re: Iridescent Finish
They may have been powder coated. There are some amazing colors and finishes out there to play with.

Re: Iridescent Finish
Dont forget...... Columbia Coatings and my favorite for this kind of thing PRISMATIC POWDERS!!!!! They have some crazy colors and you can create some even crazier colors by layering them. I know prismatic has the iradescents though i have not tried them.... One other thing you can try though is to layer different candy colors, that can create some cool flops too.....
Just thought Id share a project I did recently. This is black with an orange flake clear on it. The pictures totaly do not do it justice this goes from black to sparkly orange that changes to reds, greens, oranges and more depending on how the light is hitting it. Pretty wicked!!!!

Re: Iridescent Finish
Your a master Jim.
Crawdaddy,
You can also go to http://kustomshop.com/ for paint and powder additives. Great prices. Anything you put in solvent borne paint, can typically be put in powder coat. Watch some flakes melting points though. But ive never had a problem.
Their pearls are great. Some nice Chameleon ones can be found here,http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/kspearlrp.aspx
http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/kshift.aspx
Nice interference (ghost) pearls here, http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/kspearlicp.aspx
Holographic silver flake (they have other colors of holographic) http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/kusmp.aspx#202
The black holographic is TITTYS over black base!!!
A Chameleon flake. http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/kusf32.aspx
This one i have not tried yet, but looks promising. http://www.tcpglobal.com/kustomshop/kusf31.aspx
If you want that Chameleon or Iridescent effect, but you dont powder coat, and you dont like paint fumes, here is the best waterborne custom paint made. http://www.tcpglobal.com/autoaircolor/a ... s.aspx#GEM I have used it many times. Its outstanding, and a little will go a LONG way.
If your going to use the stuff, i highly recommend the Auto Air Colors User DVD (or just find some vids on the net about auto air colors and how to use them).
If you REALLY want some trippy shit, go here http://www.motostorm.com
If you want a great tough as nails clearcoat, try this stuff. http://www.motostorm.com/gpage5.html I use it on tons of stuff.
For a huge silverish gold sparkle, the BEST pearl can be found here. http://www.motostorm.com/gpage3.html This stuff is made from highly polished pure silver. It turns a goldish tint from the manufacturing process. If i was on my home computer, i would post my pics of it. Great stuff!
The best Holographic pearls (does not come in dry form). http://www.motostorm.com/gpage.html
And finally (i have to get to bed) for the best Chameleon pearls around, http://www.motostorm.com/gpage20.html
I have used every* product of his, and i can say without a doubt, its all the best stuff ive used ever. *Except the speed clear. I have no use for a high production speed clear, so i wasnt super impressed with it (mainly for body shops). And the liquid gunmetal i dont think is out yet. So never have tried it.
