Shield and nozzle Question - PowermMax 1000

Post by bwshop »

Question for Jim
Hi Jim
On my powerMax 1000 should the nozzle 120932 end be in about 1/16 in from the end of the shield 120930 if a guy trys to maintain the .062 cutting height then the nozzle is of about 1/8 . Also what good are 40 amp unshieided consumables on a cnc DTHC . Still trying to get the nice cuts you got but don't have much luck
Thank you bwshop

The .062" cutting height is as measured from the lowest point of the torch to the plate. So....from the face of the shield to the plate ius the correct cut height. The gap between the shield is for electrical isolation between the two parts...there also is secondary air flow between the shield and the nozzle that helps to constrict the arc....for faster speeds, better edge squareness as well as better nozzle cooling.

I do not recommend using unshielded consumables....the cut quality and consumable life is not as good as with shielded. The operators manual has listings for the non shielded consumables.

The 220404 is the best deflector for use with the FineCut parts on the Powermax1000....it provides some protection from plate contact for the nozzle.
