Touching down every 3rd cut

Post by Booneandbuck »

I’m running sheetcam and Mach 3. Is there a setting somewhere that requires the torch to touchdown and sense the material height on every cut? When I’m cutting smaller details the torch wants to touch down and then make next 2-3 cuts without rechecking the material height which occasionally results in the torch touching the material when it starts the cut then drags the torch until the THC raises it up. I understand this is probably a setting to speed up the cutting by eliminating some of the touch downs.

Depending on how your post processor is set up, there should be a ref distance setting in the SheetCam operation.

If you can find the ref distance that djreiswig is referring to I believe you want to reduce the ref distance value until you find a value where it is referencing all the cuts regardless of how close they are to each other. I cut a lot of thin aluminum and I find I just have to hold the material down sometimes until it is cutting the profile.

Also, the ref distance is normally the distance the torch has traveled and not the distance between the pierces as the crow flies.
One of the guys at SheetCam has added a radius ref distance feature to a post he has been working on. So instead of travel distance it's the distance outside of a circle centered on the last pierce. At some point I'll borrow that code and add it to my post.
