Hi,
I would like to know if using the 220404 shield on my HT 1250 machine torch for finecuts will require different voltages on the TM AVHC.

It should run at the same voltage. The voltage for using the standard defle ctor is to holed the nozzle at .080" off the plate. When you run the 404 shield the same voltage will keep the shield .060" off the plate....which still keeps the nozzle at about .080".
Regardless.....the voltage should be adjusted so the the cut edge has the best angularity....and should be tweaked occasionally during the life of a set of consumables.....as the electrode and nozzle wear, the voltage should be increased to maintain a constant height.

Jim, I have a Powermax 85 and love it. I have not been adjusting the voltage as the consumables wear. So as they wear do you increase the voltage? Your advise will be appericated.

Great idea! I lose more fine cuts than any other nozzle due to hard/bad pierces for this very reason.
Dawg, I can get 1500 pierces from a single nozzle (when the air is clean and OIL free LOL) on my 1650, I hear the 85 is WAY better, you may not see a need to raise your volts for 2000+ pierces!

Just keep a close watch on the torch to work distance....as the consumables wear..the torch will get closer to the plate...tweak the voltage higher until the torch is again at the proper height. Rule of thumb...1 volt increase normally will raise the torch about .004".
Some systems auto compensate. The PlasmaCam height control on the DHC2 and Samson machines uses ohmic sensing to detect the surface of the plate...then it samples the arc voltage at the proper cut height (assuming the operator st it up properly...but thats another whole issue!) which recalibrates the voltage/height relationship on every cut cycle. Some high end industrial plasma systems have been using this same technique for many years.

I have the ohmic senser on my Dynatorch. So will I still need to monitor the torch height and voltage?

Ohmic sensing is just the method to locate the plate surface before each cut cycle. The Dynatorch height control does ohmic sense, then retracts to pierce height, then indexes down to cut height...and after the x and y motion starts it monitors arc voltage and controls height to a particular voltage.
