Smoker builds
I saw someone posted a file of something related to a smoker build about a week or so ago and it reminded me that I never posted anything related to my smoker builds from last summer. I thought someone might like these, and I know everyone likes pics, so I'll post some build and completion pics of the two smokers I built last year.
They were both made from 250 gallon LP tanks. They have a hinged smokestack for getting through a short garage door, four sliding meat racks, underneath firewood rack, four thermometers, 2" grease drain and removable prep rack. One was for my friend and one was to sell. They are both gone now. I may build some more next winter.

Re: Smoker builds
That is a very cool build! How did you verify there was no propane left in the tanks?

Excellent work on those! I like the roller idea for a better cut.

Re: Smoker builds
Lots of discussion on that subject. The generally accepted solution is that if you fill them with soapy water, any gasses or air left in the tank gets displaced. Once that happens, it's safe to cut.tnbndr wrote: Sun Mar 30, 2025 10:51 am That is a very cool build! How did you verify there was no propane left in the tanks?

Re: Smoker builds
Holy Smoker, Scratchman they are neat. The soapy water must help to get out the smelly chemical they put in the gas too. Since the gas is odorless they add a stink agent so people can smell any leaks.

Re: Smoker builds
The stinky chemical they add is called mercaptan. I’m not sure if the soap helps to get rid of it, but everyone else adds it so I thought I’d do it also since it’s cheap. Even after the builds are complete, they still smell a little….off, so we scrub them out with degreaser, but even then the smell is still there a bit until we season them with cooking oil.
