Re: I think I am in Trouble!
This may not be big enough to hold all of the inventory from future purchases. I personally would at least double or triple the size of the existing storage building. It's only money - and you can't take it with you.

Djreiswig - you might be the exception. I think most folks - myself included - wouldn't mind having a few more bucks to spend on toys, of course without going into debt. I've got all my toys (shop, tools, etc. ) paid for. I do have payments to make (property taxes, insurances, etc.) but that's probably the same for most folks.

Yeah, I know I'm weird. I've got the normal bills to pay just like everyone else, but all my stuff belongs to me and not the bank. And I'm going to try and keep it that way.adbuch wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2025 4:37 amDjreiswig - you might be the exception. I agree. I think Joe needs a couple million square feet. Maybe there's an old vacant big box store nearby he can purchase. Go big or go home.

Re: I think I am in Trouble!
When I first moved to Franklin, there was "The Old WalMart Building" for sale. It was a nice big building, but my Realtor told me that thieves had stripped it of the copper wires and pipes, etc. and it was just a big box. I was going to buy it, but she talked me out of it, and frankly, WalMart wanted WAY too much money for it.djreiswig wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2025 10:27 am I agree. Then the Food Lion building came up for sale. I looked at that one. What an awesome building! With a 'YUGE parking lot too. I passed on it, but I wish I HAD purchased it.
A couple other large buildings have come and gone, the old high school, the old YMCA building with the huge pool, the old train station ... I held off on buying any of them, and now I am sorry. I really COULD use that much space!

Re: I think I am in Trouble!
It is a done deal! I managed to pay cash for the 1000 Watt 4x8 fiber laser machine. It is ridiculous to pay today's high interest rates, so I just arranged to wire the money and pay it off at the start. They will deliver it, set it up, and train me on the machine for the AMAZING LOW PRICE OF ONLY $42,000.00. I have to build the extension first, and set up the electric service panel inside, so there will be a bit of a delay. However, I should be cutting in a month or so.
This is going to be a game changer!

Only $42,000? That's a bargain. If the training is included, I bet you could have bought another one for $35,000 and had them both set up at the same time. Heck, when you buy that building, you could probably run 3 or 4 of those. Think of the widgets you can pump out.
How much is the building?

Re: I think I am in Trouble!
Tom - I agree! Nice to try to pass on some skills to the younger generation. Back when my nephew was in high school (and even on into college) he worked for me here at the shop and developed some pretty good skills with the lathe, welder, and other shop equipment. He also learned a lot about internal combustion engines, general automotive skills, and more as he helped me with some of my hot rod projects. We also built a nice lathe house and he did most of the welding.acourtjester wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2025 10:04 am Great you are helping the 2 young men (youts ah la Cousin Vinnie![]()

Before that, he had no previous experience and the local high schools no longer offered any of classes pertaining to automotive, welding, machining, etc.

Re: I think I am in Trouble!
My step dad used to say, "It is better to be LUCKY, than SMART!" I guess I am really LUCKY! I just happened to win two of the 25x33 garage sheds, and another 12x19 single garage shed, all at an auction in Georgia. They are all the same design, and the same color, so combining parts will be SUPER easy!djreiswig wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2025 3:34 pm Only $42,000? That's a bargain. As it happens, I am going to combine the two larger garages into one 25'x43' building and use the additional parts from the 12x19 to raise the roof at least four feet!
I thought I was going to need to purchase additional frame pieces and side panels, but with the three garage kits, I can build the entire building, and still have a small shed left over to use, or sell.

I guess I am going to lose that upper right window to the bedroom, because the peak of the addition is higher than the bottom of that window.
I will post photos, for sure!

David passing those experiences on to your nephews is great, they will have them in their pocket if needed in the future. They may not use it for a career path but having the knowledge is a plus for them personally.

Re: I think I am in Trouble!
This will not be used for storage. Well, mostly not for storage. The new fiber laser will be placed inside (9'x18'?) along with the new iron worker, and other machines. The pad was poured so I can drive my forklift into it from the 12 foot door entrance. It will have a tall roof, and lots of bright lights! I will lose the top right window, because the addition will mostly cover that opening. I may set up two tall pallet racks along each side, near the front for easy forklift access.adbuch wrote: Tue Feb 25, 2025 9:14 pm This will make a nice storage building for all of your inventory.
