Re: Quick rust finish
Thanks we were blessed as many here and in other locations in the country have truly suffered from storms and fires. Many are left with nothing, and having to completely start over. Loss of loved ones, home, place to work, autos, and businesses.

Re: Quick rust finish
Thanks for these great ideas.
I once water sandblasted some I beam with salty water.
Afterward I pressure cleaned with reverse osmosis.
After painting some rust came right through the paint.
So this water at the borehole makes methal rust fast.
But why did it rust after rinsing and painting?
Was it not properly dried?

Re: Quick rust finish
My insta rust solution is as follows:
1 cup hydrogen peroxide to 2 tbsp white vinegar and 1 tsp salt.
Looks like it is basically the same recipe that is in the YouTube video. But he didn’t give exact ratios.
I drain my spray bottle afterwards and run water through it or else it damages the zep bottles that i normally spray with

Cutting tubing like this is why I went with 8" from the slats to the bottom of the gantry. I can pull slats and cut 12" + objects.acourtjester wrote: Mon Oct 26, 2020 11:36 am YouTube post from another site another rust producing Idea.

Re: Quick rust finish
I did something similar a few years ago with some metal javelina I cut out for my sister. I dipped them in muriatic acid followed by spraying them with a solution of hydrogen peroxide. I don't remember the mixing rations, but they did turn out nicely with lots of color.

Wow segoman. That’s great. Much faster than the one that I have been usingSegoMan DeSigns wrote: Sun Jan 26, 2025 8:51 pm My Recipe:

Is the Clorox a liquid bleach, or the powder that is used to scrub scrub sinks and such? Also, how does it do if the mill scale is left on?
I normally leave the mill scale on when I rust stuff out. My version takes at least a day or two to get where yours is
I might ditch the recipe that I have been using and go to your recipe.
Thanks! Love trying new stuff
Edit: Hydrogen peroxide from the pharmacy or store is pricier than liquid Clorox (Bleach) as the YouTube video showed, and that I have been using. But I am not sure if this is what you are talking about. The powder cleanser (Clorox/ajax) and the like is a little less economical..That’s why asked the question THX

Yes on the Liquid Clorox Bleach, since this is a chemical reaction temps will change the soaking time. My hr job was on a 100* day, that was H R sheeting as well.
All safety gear a must!

Re: Quick rust finish
I have a beginners question.
So I see most first use acid or vinegar then immediately hydrogen peroxide.
How do you prepare the surface for clear coat.
Do you rinse it or neutralize it?
Do you have to be careful that you don’t wash off the rust?

Re: Quick rust finish
I have just tried clear coat over the rust as an experiment. It gets very dark but does seem to lock everything in so that you dont get rusty hands while handling the thing. I would mess around with a piece of scrap and see what you come up with. Itll take a few days for a proper experiment. Let it all sit for a few days so that the surface rust gets a bite into the steel below the rusty film or else, yes you may wash away the surface rust if you keep sraying stuff on it, especially if you dont let it dry out and give it a good waiting period , but it WILL rust out nicely. ..Creative25 wrote: Sat Feb 08, 2025 1:03 pm I have a beginners question.
