Golly ... I am realizing just how powerful 3D printing really is! I can just DRAW this, and print it into existence! I kind of know how God feels now!

Joe, ya gotta remember...the only things I draw are FLIES! Wifey does the brain work, I do the grunt work. I have no desire to do cnc and she has no desire to fabricate/weld. That being said, our daughter just got a 3d printer and she wants to make this for us.

I can imagine something simpler. A tube that a SHARPIE drops through and fits snugly, with a tapered lower end that allows the felt tip to poke through. This would make it easy to swap out colors, for artsy-fartsy things!

I posted it. Here are the stl files again. Designed to fit a Sharpie to a PTM-60 torch. No need to remove and reset the torch. Only additional piece needed is a spring between the end of the Sharpie and the nut..

I am not seeing it. The tube in the photo is not long enough for a Sharpie pen and a spring beneath the screw on cap. I assume the bottom has a lip that prevents the pen from falling out, only allowing the felt tip to poke out through the bottom.

I could see dropping a Sharpie into the tube with a weight (the black cap?) on the end, but then what are the threads for?

So how does this work?

Yes, there is a lip at the bottom of the tube so the pen can't fall out, the ridge that the pen cap stops at hits it. You place a spring on top of the end of the pen and screw on the cap (Nut), the spring allows for a bit of movement so you don't destroy the pen tip.

In 2-8 years. I went to New York after Florida and now I am in Italy for 3 years (2 more). Likely in Virginia for 3 years after this and then possibly retirement. I miss my big workshop back in Canada!

There is something to said about having your own shop, I have had lots of fun in mine. One thing you can do now is to get your project list ready for when you get back home. Italy for 3 years (real hard to do :HaHa :HaHa ) I hope your in the southern portion, have fun.
Thanks for the pen files.

You must be using the short stubby Sharpie pens, because that tube is not long enough for the full length Sharpies.

Nope, full size sharpie 86mm space in the tube plus the cap doesn't get threaded all the way down. There is room in the cap.

I just took a few more measurements... With the cap screwed on as far as it will go there is a total length of 96mm for the spring and pen body. The pen body is 86mm. There is a centering nub inside the cap that is bit less than 7mm in diameter and 6mm long. I believe I used a 9mm x25mm spring.

This one takes a full size sharpie as well. With the cap on, it is not screwed down all the way. Just enough so that the spring allows for some movement of the tip as it contacts the paper.

Here is one I designed to fit the Mini Sharpie. It has a 1/2" stem on the cap to fit a 1/2" collet in a vfd spindle on cnc wood router, machining center, etc.
