PLASMA Build CNC 3 X aXIS CONTROLLER QUESTION

Post by AdamfromScotlandUK »

Hi all

Im currently building a CNC Plasma and doing the electrics first

though im struggling the Main offline controller as all these Chinese ones are all saying 2 x Axis :Sad

i know the Z Axis is driven by a dedicated 24vDC Power and output

so the 2 x AXIS Controllers that are all over the internet

I was wanting to use a 3 x Axis system so 1: X Axis 2: Y Axis 3: Y Axis Slave making a 3 x Axis system? The Z is controlled by its own dedicated output

What am i missing? why do they all say 2 x Axis controllers online?> i need 3 as i wanted to have a Y and a Y Slave to power the table

Attached is the parts i already have and will build the table after the electrics are all done and tested!

Did you ever figure this out?

I really like the look of these controllers...

It's actually the same controller that the Eastwood table uses.

I just don't understand how the torch height is controlled. Even looking through the manual and wiring diagram it seems like a dc motor/no driver, with the height adjusted by time not distance.

I did read that fusion 360 has a compatible post processor that supposedly works.

Anyone know anything about these controllers?

Maybe I am missing something but what brand of controller are we talking about?

I had a look at the OP's picture and all I see is what looks to be a couple power supplies, torch height controller box, torch height led display, but nothing else.

Alot of the Chinese plasma tables slave the 2 y axis together. The drives have separate outputs and the input signals are daisy chained or looped together. Works ok but doesn’t provide any way for the software to automatically keep the gantry straight

My AvidCNC tables use the dual gantry drive, but separately controlled motors - so 4 drivers - x,y,y,z.

But that daisy chained approach does seem like a simpler way to do it.

You will need a driver for each motor, it would only be the input signal to the driver that would be shared I believe.

Don’t forget the slave y axis needs to be reversed

That's a good point! I had to do that with my AvidCNC tables. One of them is Mach3 and the other Centroid Acorn control.

I believe he's talking about the fangling controllers.

The pictures are of the parts he already has.

I've been looking at them and for 300ish dollars they are an offline controller that appears to be the same or similar to the Eastwood table controller. I also suspect that it's running some sort of linuxcnc at least that's what it looks like.

I have 3 used ones laying in my office and I can assure you it's not Linuxcnc or anything remotely close.
Also, the HD150 is a stand alone THC(Z lifter) that has its own stepper driver . There are no motor drivers or motor power section on the Startfire.

I just saw that the fangling controller had a shape library similar to lunixcnc and made me think it might be running that...
