DANG, JOE! I'm beginning to think maybe I should move down there closer to you!
Allen
I really wish someone lived close by, who just wanted to hang out, work with the machines, see what kind of trouble we could get into, and maybe ... just MAYBE figure out how to design and build the next mega-million dollar widget that the
Sharks would JUMP on!
I have no problem paying GOOD WAGES to helpers,
IF the things they are helping me make, are selling and bringing in money. When I was making the metal art pre-covid zombie apocalypse, I was churning out 150 to 200 pieces per week, and feeding eight 10'x10' vendor booths. My "associates" were using my Microsoft Surface PRO tablet PC and my software to draw the pieces, but I was cutting and producing them. I paid for the shop buildings, and the machines, and the materials, and the tools, and EVERYTHING. I paid the booth rentals, and the sales tax too. I was doing it for the
FUN! I didn't
care if I was making a profit.
Even so, I would make the metal, and sell it, and give my "associates"
50% of the retail sales price,
JUST for drawing vector files (
files that I COULD draw myself except for time,) and taking the metal out to the booths to hang them on pegs with price tags. I also gave them space to hang their own products in MY booths to sell, without paying any booth rent or other expenses, and they kept 100% of THEIR sales.
I can't be any more fair than that!
Sadly, GREED reared its ugly head, the arrangement crumbled, and then the 2020 "F
EAR THE AIR!" campaign went into overdrive. I shut everything down, and I haven't made anything since that time. I work with DesignEdge software. I do online training for FREE. I have added many machines to my shops. Now I am trying to get motivated again.
