Hello all,
I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction here. I just got a brand new table and I’m working out all the bugs. I’m also brandnew at this, so the bugs are mostly with me. For some reason, the torch doesn’t seem to be lifting all the way after certain cuts. It’s causing the torch to hit the metal and kind of messes everything up. So far, it doesn’t seem like it’s in the same place when I’m cutting the same piece, if that makes sense? Either way, is there something I could look at to fix this? I’ll try and post a short clip of what I’m talking about. I also noticed that the tip of the torch actually drug across the metal and you can see the scrap marks. (See pic) Thanks in advance! Matt.

Need more info about your setup. Appears to be a Hypertherm cutter. What software? Guessing your rapid clearance is set too low.

It would be helpful to know more about your setup. What kind of table, software, etc. If your torch is dragging on your part, the first thing I would look at is the height control calibration. You need to make sure it is cutting at the correct height and with the correct arc voltage setting to keep it at that cut height - assuming you have THC - which from your Hypertherm ohmic cap I would assume you do.

Re: Torch hitting work piece between cuts
My setup: Premier CNC w/Proma THC (voltage calibrated at 150), Hypertherm 45xp (retrofitted to take a machine torch), I use punch viacad, sheetcam and mach3. I’ve calibrated the THC again, after i changed the consumables to Ohmic fine cut. I’m pretty sure I got that dialed in. I also set the sheetcam cut tool to the proper cut chart. It does this on different cut files as well. I took a video when it happened, but couldn’t post.
Thanks again for any help.

If the video is long you cannot post it, If you have a Google drive or other cloud storage you may be able to store it there and attach the URL or link address in your post here. I use the Google drive with good success, using the share option.
in the image some of the cut look fine, you may have a post processor or a THC problem. I would do some test runs without the plasma on and look at the pierce height as it goes along from this statement ( So far, it doesn’t seem like it’s in the same place ). If you good with G-code you can add an M01 command after each touch off before the M3 line. That will stop the motion at the point, just hit cycle start after and it will move to the next touch.
