Lasers and Lightburn

Post by CNC_rowdy »

Anyone out here use the Lightburn program with their diode lasers? I know this is a bad question to ask, but has anyone tried to print something directly from the Lightburn program ? My problem is when I print anything in black and white, it comes out real lite as if the printer cartridge was low on toner. It is not low on toner as I can print out word documents and all the rest perfectly. Maybe somebody has had this same problem and can share a solution. Maybe something in windows has to be set in printer preferences in order for this to print correctly. I don't know. I know this is a plasma forum, and a lot of ya'll have plasma table and lasers. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
Tim

I do use Lightburn for the Diode laser I have. I had not used the print function, until now. I seemed to look ok except part of a border line I had. Which was using the line mode for a plaques outside cut of the project. For the letters inside the plaque were fine. the size of the plaque was about 11.5" square. I just printed another project with only in line mode, here is the screen shot of the project and the printed page came out the same only in Black and White. It is about 12 X 9 in size lightburn screen display.

Thank you acourtjester. my Lightburn greyscale print option came out like I said, really lite, as if out of print toner. I will play around with this some more to see what I come up with.
Thanks for answering,
Tim

Tim - if you would care to share your file, I will open it with LightBurn and print it out on my HP laser printer and see what I get. I do have a diode laser cutter like the one Tom has, but I still don't have it set up. Too many other things going on right now - particularly with the Christmas rush - I've got lots of orders to get out right now plus the plasma cut Christmas gifts I usually make for family members.

I went ahead and printed one of my files from LightBurn. The print is clear, but the lines are narrow. Here is one simple method to fix this if you need a print with thicker lines.

David

This is what it looks like when printed directly from LightBurn. If you click on my image a few times, it will zoom in so you can see what it looks like.

Here is a method to increase the line width for a more visible print.

Here is what it looks like when the final version is printed from Paint.net.

Yes David, I will post it here it here pretty quick. Word and notepad print fine and with dark black print. Just the Lightburn files print real light as if the printer cartridge is out of ink. In Lightburn I only have the greyscale option. Thanks for your time showing me other methods.

Tim - I think that is just the way it is printing from LightBurn. I exported the file from LightBurn and opened it with CorelDraw and it printed fine. CorelDraw assigns a line width similar to Inkscape stroke width. LightBurn does not have the ability to alter the stroke width.

What is the item you are trying to print, a line drawing or an image. A line should print Ok, and image may depend on the gray scale in the image.

Thanks everyone for the help. Today I will try to post an image of this. From Lightburn it is set to line mode. I have some text and images of guitars. I will play around with this some more. David and acourtjester thanks again for your help.

A little late of a post back, but thanks a lot acourtjester and David for your input and other suggestions on printing from Lightburn. Inkscape and Paint or other good tools for me to start trying to learn.
Thanks again,
Tim

There are many YouTube tutorials covering both software packages. Some offer ones for those just starting to cover the tools and actions of both. I kept a folder with links to different topics, this allows to go back and review them while actually working with a project that uses different functions.
Just name the link with a label of what it covers as you save them. :Like

I'm a little late to the party . . .
But, if you have an Adobe PDF print driver in your stable, you can print to this (with Lightburn file in either line or fill mode), get a PDF, and then send it to your printer if so desired.
Note tho, result sent to printer will need to fit available paper size.

Yes, thanks for all the info. I don't have Adobe or any of them goodies. Nice looking longhorn in your profile.
Thanks,
