Pharoahs Logo Help
I'm in need of some help on this one. The president of our club gave me permission to use the logo. Suggesting we could raffle it off for a good cause.
I usually only cut simple brackets and things for my hot rod projects. So this is out of my league. My table is a Langmuir Crossfire 22"X33". I'm looking to size this around 15"X17" or so as long as it will fit on my table. I would like to just make it in one plane if that makes sense. My son in law helped me putt the logo inside the Arizona State image using Inkscape. I've tried everything I can think of to get a cut path to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Hank

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
These artistic drawings are not my strong point, but I gave it a try and this is what I came up with. If you could get Ben to do it for you, it would come out perfect - and I'm sure he would have some other more artistic ideas. I used Inkscape to edit - and this is what it looks like before stenciling the letters.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
Thanks for the help. Yeah, I quit trying these things because I'm not to artsy fartsy. I gave up the last time you tried to help me and stayed with my simple brackets. I appreciate the help. I couldn't get fusion to create a cut path for the bird in the middle and didn't even get to the letters yet. Thanks again.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
I was trying to put bridges in so the parts wouldn't fall out. I must have watched a ton of videos and read posts on here and even tried using the tabs setting. I've come to the conclusion that I don't understand it and I'm just getting more confused.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
If you want it to pop do it in layers, that requires you to cut many parts separately and attach them to a backer plate. make the coloring much easier too. examples. This also would help with the letters, rather then tracing use them from a font selection list for cleaner shapes.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
Also - to Tom's point, a better result could probably be attained doing a layered piece. This would involve cutting all of the pieces separately, and then attaching to the backer after painting. If I were doing it that way, I would attach a sharpie marker holder to my torch and draw the letters and logo onto the backer after it is painted. This would make it easy to line up the letters, etc. for attaching to the backer after all the parts are painted.

Ah, I see now. Doing it layered will definitely look better. I didn't realize that you broke the lines up. That makes sense to me now. Clear as mud LOL. Thank you it does make sense now.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
What a wonderful compliment David! Thank you very much.
Where "Other more artistic ideas" may be concerned - Only thing I may possibly try with the one piece design is to increase the size of the interior graphics a bit, being sure to keep the same general layout and even spacing. The main goal would be to fill in some of the wide open area and make the smoking roadrunner ( ) more pronounced. Otherwise all I do differently is spend way more time than I should nitpicking every detail until I'm satisfied.
Great suggestions and work guys,

Nicely done David. I took a stab at this one also but 20 minutes in I was not even close to done and I had to abandon it and get on with my day.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
Using David's file I broke it apart to show how to move the parts around an save metal for a cutting plans, with attached broken up parts. They are all in separate parts, you can select and nest the parts more if you want. I open 2 separate Inkscapes to move part with copy and paste functions.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
I used simple tool the Inkscape (I sure other software packages can do too). Once there is a good draw or trace to have vector file you can work with to do the same things. In the attached image of David's file you can see the dotted lines around each part. You then pick each part or a group and click copy then move to another open area or page on a screen(second Inkscape opened) and paste it there. This where you add other parts to move around and nest to create another SVG or DXF file to create your G-code. You can used scraps to cut the smaller parts by nesting them to fit what you have, create a g-code with groups of parts to fit scraps from other projects. I can generate a video if you like.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
Thank you everyone. I was able to get a cut path now. I won't be able to actually cut it for awhile. I just had surgery on my spine two weeks ago and the doctor said I can't lift anything more then 10 pounds for 2 months. My wife is watching me like a hawk so I don't dare to go out to the shop. I'll update the post with some pictures when I can cut it. Again thanks everyone.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
I took Ben's advise and increased the size of the interior graphics, and also scaled the overall size up to 24" high for better plasma cutting. I imported the dxf into Fusion 360 and was able to create the cut paths for the complete part. I used a specified kerf width of 0.045" which is about what I get using the Hypertherm FineCuts.
I think this one would look fine for a raffle sale item, and much easier to do for Hank than trying to do a complicated layered piece.

Re: Pharoahs Logo Help
I also went in and manually traced the 1948, as the svg file Hank's son is using is the result of an Inkscape auto trace and these numbers were distorted. A real pro would probably massage them some more - but I think they will work for now.

I do pretty much the same, with TM CAD it's called Multiple Instance and often I will have 2-3 windows open and working at once. Your layered pieces look absolutely wonderful Tom.acourtjester wrote: ↑Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:29 am I open 2 separate Inkscapes to move part with copy and paste functions.
I think that looks great David, nice work! I rarely alter a design from the original however in some circumstances such as this to make the piece more pleasing to the eye. I find My least favorite activity is 'massaging' letters and numbers. I will replace it with new if at all possible.
