height control going crazy
today my plasmacam started trying to raise the z axis or height controll on it's own and during cutting it raises to the top when going to the diagonstics screen it shows the up button on the controll pannel is pushed i had the control pannel rebuilt a few months ago i do get a random cannot detect index pulse falling on gantry but all motors other other than z axis are new and it has anew wiring harness i spent around 6ooo on this machine the last 3 months it ran perfercetly yesterday any ideas i'm loking for help without spending a bunch more money

This sounds like a stuck button on your keypad. I would first try just pushing on the Z up button a bunch of times to see if you can "unstick it". Otherwise you can open up the controller and disconnect the ribbon cable to the keypad, and you can still use your machine if you assign keyboard shortcuts to some of the keypad functions. Assuming the repair work done by Plasmacam is under warranty, you could send your controller back and have them replace the keypad. Or you can order a new one for around $100 and install it yourself.

Also - if you can get it "unstuck" and don't want to run the risk of getting it stuck again, you could leave your keypad connected to the controller - and just add a single keyboard shortcut for the Jog Z+ function.

also I'll have to get ahold of plasmacam monday see if there's any warranty on the controller rebuild

Thanks for the help it is the control panel i'll order a new one my other question is when i go to customize my settings so i can jog my height control i don't have the options for the jog function

I tried to run the machine with the ribbon cable unplugged the height problem goes away but machine is doing weird things not controllable at all plug the ribbon cable in everything goes back to normal other than the z axis acting up

i have all the basic stuff other than the advanced design software machine control and height control are the basic

You would need Advanced Machine Control in order to have the keyboard shortcut options for the controller keypad functions.
