Procut 80 problem

Post by teachag »

I have a Procut 80 with a PCT80 torch (this is not hooked up to my tables). When I use it I constantly get an error. I have to loosen the head and retighten it then hit reset. Then I can cut for a few more seconds and it happens again. I have replaced everything in the torch head that you can buy a part for and the problem persists. My rep says we basically need to replace the torch which is over $1,000 which I am not willing to put into this older plasma which is probably at least 20 years old.. I bought it as part of a lot of used equipment at an auction. It would be nice if I could make it work but I do not absolutely need it.

I am wondering if anyone knows how to bypass the safety on this machine so it stops throwing the error or how to adapt one of those Chinese torches from Amazon to work with it. Thank you.

Do you have the service manual for your Procut 80? I would expect that it should show the electrical schematics that might help to answer your question.

It is possible that all you need to do to bypass the safety is connect the 2 wires that go to those 2 pins in the torch head. This will trick the machine into thinking the retaining cap is on and connecting those 2 pins. This is assuming it looks like most of the other import torches.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Here is some discussion about these pins and how to replace/repair them.
