Not sure about diodes, but I bought a spray LBT all purpose black (Laserbond 100) that I spray on stainless and with a Co2 it leaves a nice black marking.

The laser may be burning some element in the mustard and staining the metal, with a fairly decent bond, but I doubt the blue laser actually etches the stainless steel itself. I will try it though ...

I did that with my first laser an Ortur either 5 or 10 Watts, I have not tried it with the newer 70 Watt I bought.
