Cutting 5/8 with a 45xp

Post by Dirtmotor »

I cut some 5/8 on my table over the weekend for a welding table with the 45xp using the book settings .
It cut really well , clean and square ! Turned out better than I thought it would .

Contrary to popular belief, cutting thicker produces better squareness of the edge as compared to cutting thin materials. This assumes that edge starting is used, or that you have set up adequate pierce height and pierce delay so that the nozzle and shield survive piercing! The Hypertherm 45 and 45xp surprise a lot of users when 3/8", 1/2" (max recommended pierce) and 5/8" (advertised duty cycle thickness) are cut. I had my 45 setup with a hand torch yesterday and needed a 6" cut on 3/4" steel.....the 45 did an excellent job! Jim Colt

I have cut up to 1/2" with my 45xp with very good results. Your cut looks good.
