Hi all

Post by Aus22 »

Hi Guys,
Located in Queensland Australia, new to the forum, new to CNC plasma cutting and CNC in general.

I have had a 10 year hiatus from pipe welding, boilermaking etc and been in QA and project management but still having a shed and building hot rods and other project.

A couple of months ago I wanted to dip my toe into the CNC world and thought it would be cool to be able to cut brackets and stuff out. I started to plan a build of a small plasma table. Which turned into a 2500mm x 1450mm water bed table controlled off by a Geckodrive G540. So far I have only really been doing small jobs and some sign art as the plasma unit I have is a 40 amp Renegade (Chinese knock off) but looking to up grade this soon. I have fault found this machine, fixed a few commissioning issues and have it running reliably now which is thanks to random google searches where answered to some problems were found here.

Currently running it with Mach3 and using sheet cam as a post processor.

Hi,

The photo links do not work, but It sounds like you are on your way! I will be of no help with the machine and software you have chosen, but this is a great place to get answers!

Welcome aboard, you should fit right in with your country members, looks like you did a great job, and are doing well. If you have questions this is the place to ask them. Also you can use the search function in the upper right for a good look around for ideas and file for projects that may interest you.

Hi Aus22 and welcome to the forum.

I'm on the other side of the rabbit-proof fence, over in WA, so it's good to meet another member from down under.

I also built my own table, which has a footprint of 1800 x 1800mm and a cut area of 1300 x 1300mm. It runs the MyPlasm CNC controller and plasma interface unit.
MyPlasm runs on .dxf files that I create in Inkscape, which is a free 2D CAD program.

For 2 years I've benn using a Unimig Razor Cut 45 plasma cutter. However, I've just upgraded the RC45 to a Thermacut SD55 with a machine torch, because I've been having ongoing duty cycle issues with the RC45.

Look forward to seeing more of your work, and feel free to get in touch if you want to chat about 'plasma stuff'.

regards
Rusty...

Unrelated to the topic at hand ... What do you think about me flying over to Australia, renting a motorcycle, and touring the entire country in 2024? (Cute Sheila Tour Guide - optional! )

Depending on what you want to do, ie on road, off road and budget it would probably be cheaper to buy one.
The Australian motorcycle community is pretty welcoming. If you get on a few forums or possibly FB pages now and ask around you will probably find heaps of offers for places to stay and tours guides for their local area.
I used to be into sport bikes and off road and would often have guys from the other side of Aust that I never met before come stay for a day or two service their bikes and take them out on a few of our favorite roads or trails.
