Question about Painting metal art

Post by Vince »

Need help: I'd like to paint metal art (CR -16 gauge). Mostly flat black, but maybe other colors. What are my best options as far as the type of paint(using with handheld spray gun) and is there any spray paint available that I don't have to use primer. (I checked with a local company that powder coats, they quoted me $10 for wall art that is approx 14" x 16").

Thanks for any help.

I use the rutoleum hammered paints a lot. I like the texture they add and the steel doesn't have to be as perfect.

I prime all of my stuff.
It just covers better, looks better and sticks better.

The textured (hammered) paints are a good choice.

If the pieces are smaller like you mentioned, a harbor freight powder coating system will work well, just use propane (infrared heaters).

I have powder coated **A LOT** of wall hangings this way with great results.

can you explain that more? do you just use infrared heaters to cure the powder?
