Help with identifying torch head

Post by Sandman »

I have a Cutmaster 58 with an 50 foot SL60 hand torch. I was given a 20 foot SL60 with hand torch that I was going to use on a small table, but that torch does not except the SL60 consumables and it came with no consumables. It has the SL60 stickers on the handle and looks identical to my original torch. So, it appears that either old SL60’s used different consumables or the head was replaced with maybe an SL40 head. I have attached a photo of the two heads. The black is from my original and the white is from the recently acquire one. Can someone tell me if that white one matches their Cutmaster 42?

That is very strange, the SL torches have been the same for longer than I can remember. Is it just the electrode that won't fit?

Yes, just the electrode. All the other parts from my SL60QD fit.

Sorry Sandman, I am absolutely stumped on this one. I have been around the SL60 and SL100 torches for years and have never seen this. If you figure out that the head is from a different torch I am curious to know what you find out.

I went ahead and ordered a new SL60 head clone ($80). The OEM one was $600. That kind of defeats the purpose of using a “free” torch. I put the head from my torch in the given torch, and it worked perfectly. So, I know the hose and switch are all good.

Thanks.

Ah well, a torch for $80 isn't too bad either, certainly isn't worth $600!

Search 9-8219 on eBay. They will all come from China, but I was able to find one that shipped to the US in 10 days.

That's only the body, I need the whole thing including the barrel, and the leads.
