Hpr130 autogas dross issues

Post by JT-fabshop »

Hey guys new here

I'm completely new to cnc plasma cutting just got a killer deal on a used 5x20 esprit lightning table with a hpr130 autogas with hypertherm edge voyager II controller from what I can tell.
I got the system running and cutting but I'm having a dross issue. I have 30amp consumables cutting 14ga hr O2/O2 cut speed 60ipm per cut chart.

Like I said 100% new to cnc plasma I did try speeding it up and slowing it down a bit +-5/10ipm didn't really make a difference also.

Thank you for any help and ideas.

Nice machine and cuts look pretty good. I would double check your cut height by pausing the machine mid cut and check with feeler gauge and adjust the height if needed. Once that is spot on try increasing the cut speed a little at a time until you are going too fast then back it off a little. Are you using compressed air or O2 for gas?

O2 cut and 02shield can't use air for cutting ms with this machine I can use it to shield once I'm using 80amp consumables
Thanks for the reply

In that case I would ensure with feeler gauges that you are cutting at the correct height and try speeding up the cut speed as I mentioned above. If you are able to improve on the results please post a pic.

that's not necessarily atypical for the hpr.

how easily does it come off? downdraft or water table? how accurate is your o2? hy-def is rather sensitive to shield, cut, and supply pressures

This looks to me like low speed dross, which is normally light and bubbly and should scrape right off or fall off if you drop the piece on a steel table top or concrete floor. Sometimes the amount of dross will vary by material or material thickness. I find I have better luck cutting cold rolled steel than hot rolled.
