test for acid strength

Post by BAR M »

Howdy,
I immerse most parts in an HCL bath for about 24 hrs. Works great. I cut the acid with water, 50/50. The relative humidity where I live, on a high desert in New Mexico causes the water to evaporate quickly, even though the tank is usually covered. Is there a test, like litmus paper to judge the acid ratio ? I am adding about 10 gals. of water a week.
Thank you for reading.

You're looking for ph test strips. I'm not sure what the ph should be for what you are doing, but at least you could get a baseline and see if it is getting too diluted.

You could use something like this to test your acid. You would want to mix a fresh batch of your acid/water mixture and test with pH strip and record value/color. This will be your reference, so as the water and acid evaporate - you can test the remaining solution and figure out how much water and/or acid to add to restore to the original pH level.

Thank you very much for your responses. I just smacked myself in the head and said "why didn't I think of than?"
I am on it. Thanks again.

Bob - did you ever get your acid strength dialed in for the parts you are processing? Just curious how well that test kit works.
Thanks,
David
