Need graphic help - Stick font for numbers

Post by 9toejack »

Hello i need help please, im not very good at graphics yet been learning inskape.
I made this score keeper to mount on fence for cornhole.
problem is it wants to cut a shape on my numbers instead of just cutting a line.
can someone convert my numbers in this svg as a single line cut path so when i pull into sheetcam
its not trying to cut both sides of number?

I do not have access to your google drive. Perhaps just post you file here directly as svg.

Try using a single line font.

You could try using a single line font like this. You would still need to stencil some of the numbers to keep the centers from falling out when cut.

I would also suggest that you make sure that your torch consumables and settings for cut height, pierce height, pierce delay time, cut speed, current setting, and kerf width setting are appropriate for the material thickness you are cutting. You plasma cutter manual should have mechanized cut charts with settings for different material thicknesses. Let us know if you have any specific questions about your setup.

Turn off your DTHC for these. I just posted in the other thread that Acourtjester stared. Even the stick fonts have double lines when you really blow it up large in inkscape.

Here is the other thread. I am not really convinced the CAMBAM stick font is really a stick font.

TJ - I agree. I noticed that these have duplicate lines, one on top of the other. The stick font I used for the file I posted for the OP was not cambam font, and was instead a single line font from Design Edge. I ran into the problem you are talking about when I was trying to stencil the Inkscape cambam font.

TJ - most of the cambam stick fonts seem to have overlapping nodes. The Join selected nodes tool has no effect. So without some serious editing of the letters or numbers, these seem to not be the best choice for a true single line font in Inkscape.

Thanks David. As I stated I am not a fan of the Cambam font. Looking around on dafont in the near future for a true stick font.
Thanks.

TJ - Here is a single line font from Design Edge. I typed it in Design Edge, saved as dxf, converted to svg, and opened with Inkscape. When I get some time, I will look into the possibility of installing this DE font into Inkscape directly. It probably won't work, but you never know. Let me know if you find one in your search.

I tried it and it doesn't work. When installed to Windows, these DE fonts don't come out the same as they do when exported as text from DE. Oh well!

At some point I would like to create a plasma friendly stick font. Up to this point I just modify the letters I need at the time.

Ive been using Hershey Font Extension..
Heres the discussion about it https://plasmaspider.com/viewtopic.php? ... nt#p123746
You still have to either break the crossovers or turn off THC to avoid dives.

Rokcrler - thanks for that reminder! I forgot that the AxiDraw Utilities also do text. I have used it for hatching, but never used the text portion before since I normally use Design Edge for "stick fonts". Great tip!!

In Design Edge, we have a height control setting to disable height control when crossing kerf. But for others, disabling height control manually as you suggest is a great tip as well.

David. We can disable dthc in sheetcam. I can also disable it in commamd cnc gui. I have to check out the hershey font extension. Was just at hershey park not to long ago. Crazy coasters and really great welds on these coasters. First thing I look at.

TJ - the difference is that in Design Edge we can set it to disable thc ONLY when it crosses kerf. So thc is enabled for the entire piece except for where the torch crosses a kerf width. I believe that in Sheetcam thc is either enabled or disabled for the entire piece. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks,
David

There are action points in SheetCam. Here is a post I found about kerf crossing & THC.

The Hershey Text tool also seems to work pretty well on the CamBam stick fonts. Also using the Simplify tool afterwards smooths it out some.

Yes as there are path rules in sheetcam, however CandCNC does not recommend playing with rules as it bangs up their EOC(on end of cut rule). So I just turn off the DTHC for that particular layer. I works for me.

I think you can use an action point to turn off the dthc. The ones that mess up the antidive are ones that adjust the speed. I could be wrong though, as I don't have commandcnc.
