Improved Search Function

Today we have made an improvement to our integrated Search engine which should make it more useful and provide you with greatly improved results.

If you are not already aware, there are 2 different search options on PlasmaSpider and it is helpful to know the difference.

The Search box in the upper right corner shown in the image below will deliver results from every forum on the site and should be used for site wide searches.

1: Site Wide Search

PlasmaSpider also has a Search box in each forum which is shown in the image below. Using this Search box will deliver results only from the forum you are currently in.

2: Forum Specific Search

The forum specific Search box is very helpful. For example, if you are searching for a specific DXF design, don't use the site wide search as this will deliver numerous results, many of which may not even contain a DXF design. Instead go the File Sharing Forum and use the forum specific search box to deliver only results from the file sharing forum.

I hope everyone finds this search function upgrade to be more useful now and please respond below with any comments, suggestions, or bugs.

I'll probably get booed for this, but how about a search function for only posts that contain files. Or only certain types of files. Sometimes it's nice to browse the stockpile for ideas on things to cut.

Had a quick look into this possibility and it would be difficult to add this feature to the search function. I will mention though that we monitor the forum very closely each day and starting one page 2 of the File Sharing Forum you will be hard pressed to find a single topic that does not contain an attached file. Page 1 may contain some topics without files attached but once they get to page 2 they are removed so we don't accumulate empty posts over time.

The only issue is having to weed through the discussion posts in each thread to locate the actual drawing. I haven't actually browsed the whole sharing forum for a while, so maybe this is not that big of a deal.
I always thought a simple catalog type arrangement would be handy, but others like the comments and thanks to appear with the contributions. I see their point, but it does make it more cumbersome to sort through the threads.

You mentioned that you have a new (to you) table and are having problems getting it up and running. What kind of table/cutter do you have, and what problems in particular are you having? There are many here with great experience with all sorts of tables - store bought as well as diy. Let us know your specific questions and we will try to help.
