Another method is use the vinyl cutting for masking Aluminum to etch the design with Ferric Chloride (I used Muriatic acid and Hydrogen Peroxide mix)

Tom - is this the method you used to produce this plaque? It has a brushed finish, so I assume the entire aluminum blank was sanded first, then vinyl masking applied for the letters, and then the acid for etching. How do you apply the acid? Spray, brush, dip in tank, or?

You are correct, I cut the vinyl apply it to the cleaned and polish Aluminum and use a shallow plastic container to submerge the Aluminum. Move it around some as it etches, remove and rinse with water and washing soda. Dry and paint if wanted as shown in the red plaque. Remove the vinyl, I do protect the back and sides too with scotch tape. The texture is from the etching action.
