Dipping Pieces in Paint

Have smaller pieces I would like to be able to dip in paint for coverage and speed. Have tried it with varied success. What are some tips and tricks to make this work successfully? Type of paint that works best also? I was using a direct to metal, biggest problem we had was the dry time and some spots would be thinner than others. Thanks for the help.

You could try dipping in powder paint (powder coating) and then put in oven or use heat gun to rapidly cure. There was a recent post by Tom with some videos showing how to do this.

No, David is talking about powder coating but the technique he is referring to requires no powder coat gun, you simply dip the part in a cup full of powder coat powder. I believe this is called liquid powder coating and looks like a very simple and fast technique that produces good results. I have always wanted to try this but haven't got around to it yet. You will need an oven of some kind thought to cure the powder coat that's the downside compared to what your doing. What your doing though you may find you never achieve good finish results.

Hydro dipping as you describe is using many colors of paint to get that look, maybe you could use it with only one color.
The process in the video above is with power coating material, using a device which holds the power coating paint in a container which has an air supply that fluffs up the power. The item to be painted is dipped into the powder, because of the fluffing only attaches a thin layer of the powder due to the electric charge. Then it is heat to cures the powder to the item to finish the paint process.
