Torch not firing

Post by howconman »

Hello everyone, it’s been awhile. I’m running plasmacam dhc2, hypertherm powermax 1000 G3. Purchased both in 2003, I’ve never had a bit of trouble with either machine. My machine has set idle for a month while working on other projects, got ready to do some cuts and my machine will not fire. When I click “cut”, I get a weak spark from torch to material and post cut air flow, but torch will not fire. Of coarse, I get the no cutting signal error on screen. I noticed my torch control wire had a melted spot, so I replaced it, still weak spark and no fire. I have no error lights on the hypertherm, air pressure green, operation light green. Checked ground to table and to material seems ok. Any thoughts? I’d appreciate any and all input.

Make sure you have a good solid 100 psi air pressure as measured at the air inlet to the machine while air is flowing thru the machine. The first thing to check is that you have your plasma cutter work clamp connected directly to the material being cut. Make sure the other end of the work lead is plugged securely into your plasma cutter. If you have a hand torch, then disconnect the torch control cable from the controller and insert the jumper plug for manual cutting and try some manual hand cutting. If the torch still will not fire, open up the machine and reconnect the torch trigger wire that you originally cut when you installed the Plasmacam torch control cable. If the torch still will not fire, let us know and we can proceed to diagnose from there.
