Parallel Port Setup Issues

Post by Cvanden87 »

I have an older Plasmacam DHC with plasmacam 3.11 software. My computer took a crap so i got a new computer. I installed the parallel port i had in the old computer into the new computer. I installed the plasmacam software but switched windows 10 to capatability mode for windows 7 for plasmacam. I also installed the drivers for the parallel port. when i try to configure the port settings in plasmacam i keep getting and error. Ill see if i can get some pictures of the errors and port settings. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does your Settings/System Setup page offer the option for Parallel Port Setting, Automatically configure port? I am using 4.xx which does offer this option, but I am not familiar with 3.11.

Could it be that you have to tell plasmacam which device port address to use?

in W10 type "device manager" either into the search box or after you click on the windows icon in the bottom LHS corner

scroll down to something like "ports" (unfortunately the laptop I'm on does not have any parallel or serial ports or I'd show you as the address sequence will be different from a USB address)

either "general" or if you go to the properties tab and scroll down to "address" should show you the device address that windows has assigned it (you can change it to whatever Plasmacam is default looking for too.

Alternatively this (old) thread may be of use / searching google for "Plasmacam parallel port address" as I did to other suggestions

good luck

here is another explanation but with W8....from this forum

the procedure will be similar to assign the hexidecimal address within plasmacam, which is what I expect the software is looking for as its older software and probably needs a hand

I don't know if this has been covered in other replies but try these steps if you haven't already:

Go to Windows Device Manager you will find the RESOURCE tab. That has the I/O range of the parallel port.

Under the PORT SETTINGS tab select "Use any interrupt" and "Enable legacy plug and play".

Enter the I/O address into the "Base Address" in the Design Edge System Setup settings. Then click Detect Machine.

It looks like your port address range is E000 to E017. Perhaps try E000 as your base address.

In the second address would I put E017?

Perhaps your parallel card is not compatible with your new computer, or running Windows 10 in the "Windows 7" mode is causing a problem.

So I down graded operating system from windows 10 to windows 7 pro. Installed the original parallel port from the computer that took a crap. Listed the port as e000 and e017 as it wanted and auto detect and it moved when I initialized
