Wood Working Air Filtration???

I have a water table that does a great job with the smoke however it doesn't capture all of the smell / smoke. Has anyone tried the air filtration units that clean the air in woodworking shops? The ones that are designed to hang from the ceiling. Jet, Rikon, Shop Fox etc brands?
I have AC in my shop and would like to run my table without having to open the doors and windows and crank up the fans to clear the air.

Hi Camo,
I use a draft system in addition to my water table/tray to eliminate residual smoke/smell from my shop. I am able to run my 6 ton ac/heat system with no problems.

Thanks! I hadn't seen that one yet. Keith is the one who put me onto Plasmacam when I was looking to either build or buy a table about 4 years ago.

David, an awesome downdraft. How is the airflow from that fan? is it enough?
I wanted to do something similar but was planning on zoning the air flow so in your case, one side would be active and swap to the other side as the torch crossed the centre line via air ram operated shutters.

Thanks! Yes the airflow is sufficient for my application. The key here is to keep most of the table covered so as not to loose too much suction. With a full 4x4 sheet, this is no problem. When cutting smaller pieces, I generally cover the open portion of the table with pieces of masonite (1/8" thick hardboard). Also sometimes a partial sheet of sheet metal. I also find the masonite handy as it acts as an additional working surface when the table is not in actual use cutting parts.

In the photos below, I am just getting ready to cut some small parts from a piece of 3/8" steel plate. The magnetic work clamp is connected to both machine work lead and cutting grates/earth ground rod.

Great feedback thanks. One of the Linuxcnc guys has a build in progress of a 6' x 12' table with 8 downdraft ports. When I saw it, I wrote a component that will trigger each of the 8 zones based on the torch position (eg when its in a 3' x 3' quadrant above a port, only that one will open.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how well it works out for him. At this stage we don't think walls are required between segments. I suspect the masonite won't be required as the suction will be localised close to the cut..

This is a proof of concept I did with a ram that is far too big but it shows what will happen when its in operation.
