New Torch Upgrades for Powermax1000 and 1250 systems

Post by jimcolt »

Hypertherm has just announced upgrade kits that allow for plug and play installation of the new Duramax (same torch as used on the new Powermax65 and 85) torches on the Powermax1000 and 1250 system. Advantages are numerous, including faster cut speed, longer consumable life and better cut quality. More details can be found with this link to the Hypertherm website: http://www.hypertherm.com/en/Products/H ... pgrade.jsp

Dang. I bought a 45 back in September, and it's working great, cutting beautifully, but now I wish I has waited and bought the new 65. Sounds like its the latest and greatest. :P

Checked out the link. The spring electrode is clever. With the conical flow nozzles, is THC even more important? From what I understand, the arc shape mimics the shape coming out of the orifice on the (conical) nozzle, reducing bevel at the perfect cut height. more or less height would increase the angle either way once out of the optimum cut height.

Am I barking mad?

I checked my piggy bank and am ready when the 1650 MTC upgrade hits the ground.

Jim, I just received my new duramax torch for my powermax 1250, and in my research in ordering it I remember reading that you needed to change the controller wires to a different location on the PC board inside the machine. This was instead of splicing into the switch wire (purple). any help would be great!

If you fill me in on some details about what torch (hand or machine) you were using, what Duramax (hand or machine) you are planning to use......and what connections you made with the original torch. Do you use raw voltage outrput for height control? What tye of cnc machine are you using?

There are a lot of different machines and setups out there!

JIm, Hand torch on a Plasmacam DHC system. I connected it the same way as my 80t. Hope that was right, it seems to work just fine. I didn't know if I needed to use the ohmic cup with the DHC.

Thanks
