Anyone have any good suppliers who can deliver to Iowa? Our local supplier sold out to another company and they are charging quite a bit. I went to Menards and paid $50 bucks for a 2' x 4' 16 gauge CR. Hard to make money at this cost.

Where are you in Iowa? The suppliers around here (SE South Dakota) generally require a minimum of 2,000 lbs for delivery.

I'm in Davenport, Iowa. I did find a supplier for hot rolled flat sheet, oiled and pickled for .36 a pound. I paid $80 for 4 pieces of 4 'x 4 ' sheets. Not too bad.

Mine has gone from about $56 for a 4x8 sheet of 14 gauge to around $75

Our 14g cold roll has went from $1.81 to $2.88 per square foot buying 10 sheets per order.

dooker456, not telling you how to run your business but I would pass the material cost along to my customers. Unless you have a multiyear contract that you have to hold prices, everybody will be doing the same thing and if they don't then they won't last much longer.

I'm lucky enough to live close to a plant that takes large rolls of steel from a mill, straightens them out and shears to customer specs. I get all the drops I want for $0.25 cents a pound. I take whatever type they give me but I can specify thickness. No diamond plate or stainless. If I get any 3/8 the whole load jumps to $0.35 cents a pound. Most of the time I get 3/16 x 48" x 60" sheets. Last time I ordered I got 2500# for $625.00. I've got another 2000# being delivered today. North Mississippi.

Was shopping a place to find steel locally this week actually as I’m just getting started. Metal supermarkets in Marietta Georgia wanted almost $200 a sheet for 11 gauge HR 4 x 8. I found it in Rome Georgia which is much closer to me for about $90 per sheet. Picked up a sheet of CR 18 gauge for $65 also

I was absolutely amazed that there could be that much difference in pricing within 50 miles.

I just by chance ran across another metal supplier in my area. If he doesn't have it in stock he can get it by the next day. His pricing is a bit higher than some other places but they are hit or miss on stock cold rolled. I'll pay a little more for convenience, the cost just gets passed on to the customer anyway.

Ooooooh.....puhpow! I like what yer sayin'. Passing the cost increase on to the customer is not sustainable. Eventually the customer has to look at other less expensive avenues, be it having parts made over seas (the company that I produce parts for is doing just that) or on a long shot chance other larger operations for quantity price breaks and the customer may not be able to order large enough quantities to get the price break. If you're doing one off signs or other trinket stuff.... then you may be able to pass it on, or the customer may not think the cost is worth it and scrap the idea. In any case the end user loses or they have to cut back on other spending (equipment, employees, benefits, etc). There are few winners in this situation and many losers. I get irritated when people throw out "just pass it on to the customer".

Steel prices in Ohio are finally starting to go down rather than up...It's been rough the past couple of years.

$100 for a 4x8x11ga
$175 for 72x120x11ga
$900 for 96x240x3/16"

Prices are down about 15% in the last couple of months.

Bold statement brother! Not gunna be very popular here though. But, facts is facts and I agree.

BTW, there is a freshly posted "Trump Train 2020" file in the file sharing section. You can cut a bunch of them out and make 34% less on them.
