Another 3/8" Question

Post by I see spots »

FIRST,
Much thanks and respect to everyone here for all their knowlege...

I have a Powermax 1000 and have been getting good results on .0375" at 40amps and 30imp for shapes and 6ipm for bolt holes.

Just a small amount of tapper, about .008" on the bolt holes.

Should I expect better results at 60amps?

Can I run the consumables above or below their rated amperage? (how much?)

Does the amperage effect the shape of the arc?

thanks

bob

Higher amperage will produce fastr speeds, less dross, but more taper on thin materials. It is best (for taper) to use the lowest powered consumables that the manufacturer says will cut the material you plan to cut.

It is not recomended to exceed the manufacturers nozzle amperage level. 40 amps is the maximum for a 40 amp nozzle. If you exceeed the nozzle amp rating, expect dramatically lower life. Hypertherm nozzles are designed to produce the maximum energy density at their rated amperage....without affecting the life.
