When nesting parts - Is there a rule of thumb with regard to part spacing and the thickness of material or amps used?

1/4" has always worked for me.

2.5x kerf is a good rule of thumb, IMO.

Sorry for the late reply - thanks for the suggestions!
I'm learning 8-10mm part spacing seems to work well on material thickness upto 15mm, and anything thicker than that - 15mm part spacing.
I could probably get things nested closer messing around with lead ins/outs, but I'm not that advanced yet!
