cleaning DXF

Post by admiral4000 »

Hi all from Scotland UK.

I am trying to clean a DXF file downloaded from here so that my plasma system will accept it.

The system is a Swift-Cut 1250 with a Hypertherm PMX65 powersource.

Swift cut say there are too many nodes in the file and that it needs to be cleaned in order for the machine to be able to cut it.

I am using autocad 2016 an hope someone can steer me in the right direction.

First time posting on here, very impressed with the files and workmanship I've seen so far.

Cheers

Andy.

Hi Andy
Any chance you can re-post your file you are trying to clean up?
Let's see how many nodes you are talking about?
Best Regards to all

Hi Andy

Loaded your file into SheetCam no problem

BUT

The job dimensions are 12.8 x 13.2mm (that's small) I would assume originally that might have been inches not mm
the eye detail is an open line

But as far as to many nodes, I would not agree, seems average for a piece of art stuff

I would suggest enlarging the base image in your CAD package or download solid edge 2D (see arclight web site for videos of this software)
If you up to speed with CAD then its should be a breeze to grasp the solid edge package real simple but with some nice twists to get things done

I would also consider investigating "Inkscape" but opening DXF files is tricky in Inkscape

Maybe list the software you use from start to cut, not really familiar with the swift cut methods.

too many nodes = not really
Size = yes is a problem

Ask swift-cut again about how there system would manage changes to get to where you want to be

Sorry
Best Regards to all

Hi,

thanks again for your help.

I am waiting on swift cut getting back to me.

Perhaps the system is rejecting it as its too small.

I have solid edge on my system and also on my pc.

Thanks again!!

Andy.

Hi exapprentice,

I managed to scale up the image and am pleased to say I have the dragon in my hand.

Thanks you very much for your assistance.

Hi exapprentice,

Yes, this is a massive learning curve for me and I'm loving every minute of it!!

Here it is, turned out not bad me thinks.

Your assistance massively appreciated, I hope in time I can help others.

I'm from Cumbernauld just outside Glasgow.
