Layered Pieces

So I'm a newbie and Ive cut a couple pieces that are layered or "3-d" whatever it is called but I'm just curious on what you guys use to attach the pieces to each other?

It really depends on what you are making. for larger pieces and deeper standoffs, I use welded studs/spacers/bolts to the back of the top pieces and drill through the bottom ones and fasten together. For smaller stuff I have used double sided tape.

Yeah right now its just small stuff I was thinking double sided tape but just didnt know if there was a certain kind that is better?

I use #4 or #6 stainless machine screws usually with a sightly larger nut between each piece of steel {to give a little depth} it works out great. I add the holes in CAD so each piece lines up perfectly. super fast and easy to paint.

There is a double sided tape made for cell phone screens (sold on eBay) that is very thin and you can buy different widths of it. very sticky.

For smaller pieces I use small rare earth magnets that I buy off of Etsy.com they are cheap and they work well. Larger pieces I add the holes in the drawing program so everything lines up perfect and use good old fashion nuts and bolts, which makes it easy to change the depth of each piece for different effects.

I've used everything already mentioned above plus rivets... all of these ways work and not one is the best, it's all dependent on the weight/holding requirements and the "look" you want. I lean towards the 3m double-side tape and rivets or a combo, but I am always working on better/cheaper/easier. I got the HF air riveter and it's worked pretty well so far.
