Nesting Software

Post by pete4477 »

Does anybody use nesting software? We are primarily a commercial HVAC shop and use Shop Data which includes parts nesting, but it doesn't seem to work too well with our new high def plasma table and it has never worked good with our waterjet. Any information anyone can give will be greatly appreciated.

Virtually all industrial plasma cutting operations use nesting. There are many different forms......Nesting software is often the CAM software that can do a lot of things....as well as geometrically nesting parts.

Here is a link to the most popular Nesting software.....it is called Cam Solutions, formerly was called MTC software. They are now owned by Hypertherm.

I have not used Nestmaster....I have a copy of ProNest that I use. Best bet on the procing is to contact Cam Solutions. I am not up to speed on the options and pricing levels. Keep in mind that these are high level nesting packages designed for high duy cycle industrial use....they have the highest levels of training, support and features....the packages are not inexpensive, but are designed to dramatically improve production....cutting productio time and lowering cutting costs.

I used to use OneCNC XR and now use Hypertherms TurboNest. Both sure make life easier. TurboNest is better but twice the price.

The OneCNC XR seat in for sale in the classified section. Cheap! The license is transferable.

I use C-Cut. It works OK. Before this I used the DOS version of Shop Data for years.

We use Sicam. I wouldn't recommend it. It's constantly freezing, encountering fatal processes and seems slightly archaic. Any time I load up a file with a high number of lines, it's kills the program. Or it takes ten minutes to load up a nest which it eventually can't even process. Maybe it's just the hardware it's attached to. Or maybe it's just me. Dunno

*edit* On the bright side, it does the trick with most all of the structural members and various parts we need around the shop.
