Why wont some files weld?

I have some files downloaded from this site and some i have bought and some that i have traced that wont weld when i use the weld function in corelX5. I was just wondering why that is? It's probably user error but cant figure it out.

Are the items you are trying to weld grouped? If they are grouped with other objects, you can't weld them. Just ungroup them and you should be good to go. If not, let us know.

No they werent grouped.

1ungroup both items, select one item only
2 .click on one item to highlight it makesure your highlight box covers the whole item
3 click arrange then joint curves. Click item should turn red
4. After that click combine you now have one solid item
5 do the same sequence to the other item
6 drag the two items together with some overlap
7 click arrange -shape- weld
