Corel Draw and DXF problem

Post by cutterguy »

Please tell me what I am doing wrong. In Corel Draw X4 the file looks perfect but when I move it into Sheetcam via a dxf some of the lines are automatically connected. I posted some screen shots to show. Could someone get a good clean dxf for me? really tho, I'd like to know what I doing wrong.

Thanks

In the .cdr file you have posted, I do not see the line located for the roof top between the barn and the silo. It appears that somehow, that line along with the one by the tire and some of the others on the front of the combine are somehow connected and corel is trying to make it a closed object. This is not the case in the file you posted - at least it is not that way on mine with Corel X5. I have included a screenshot.

It could be that somehow, these objects were all combined together and Corel and/or sheetcam is trying to make a closed object out of them, which would explain the extra lines that sheetcam is putting on there.

Here's something you may want to try as well, when you export the file out of Corel as a DFX, select the earliest(oldest not newest) version of DFX/Autocad. I use Ver. 2.5 to export and it seems to fix a lot of importing issues.

Hope that helps.

Gamelord, thanks for your ideas. what happens if you export a dxf. does it do the same for you as it does for me. Do we conclude that this is a SheetCam problem, or a Corel Draw problem?

I opened your file in X5 and exported as dxf (Autocad 2008) and opened in Sheetcam, created G code and everything looks fine although as Gamelord pointed out the line between the barn and silo is not there in the Corel file so is not exported.

I have on other drawings some times had these extra lines drawn when exported to dxf where I have not joined nodes after using the virtual delete tool but on your file everything worked fine for me.

What version of Autocad are you using in the dxf export? I have found that some files I download I have to open in Corel and re- export as Autocad 2008 to get Sheetcam to open them.

On the file you posted, I can open and export it no problems. I am not using sheetcam though, so can't say what you are getting. I would think it is a sheetcam problem....but...it may be caused by corel doing something foolish with those particular items such as marking them as a single object or trying to close them that is messing up sheetcam but not messing up my setup. Whenever you import/export from one program to another, they don't always know exactly what to do with every little detail. You always hope they are the same, but there are usually small insignificant differences that will effect one program more than another. In reality, you are using a Corel product, to export a Corel based file out in an Autocad .DFX format, for a sheetcam program. There are bound to be some kind of confusion every once in a while between these three different programs all made by different manufacturers.

I really can't say it is sheetcam or Corel that is messing with you...but on this end, everything looks perfectly fine in Corel and when I export it my torchmate software reads it just fine.

That surely points a finger towards Sheetcam. Hopefully you can get it sorted out. Did you try different versions of export to see if that changes anything?

Thanks for your ideas,
In response to the missing line on the barn. I deleted the line after I took the screen shots.

Here's how I "fixed" the problem. I rewelded the some of the objects together. ex. the letters and tabs. I have noticed sometimes that when I weld or combine objects together some of the curves in the object fill or don't fill with color when they are not supposed to. Now I just made sure that all the objects filled at the right time. Plus I used the DXF version 2.5 instead of R10. Maybe that made a differance now also.

Cheers
