Not cutting completely through

This may sound strange but what can I do to just put a pattern on my metal without cutting all the way through? Kinda like deep engraving.

Turn the plasma system power way down to minimum and increase speed. You could also try using pure argon instead of air as the plasma gas...this will make the arc less aggressive.
