R-tech p51d - no arc on CNC mode

Post by shakysteve »

Hi,

I have been slowly progressing on a JD garage CNC table build and have got to the point where I am looking to start doing some test cuts.

I am using a r-tech p51d with an ipt-60 handheld torch set up on the table but am yet to get the machine to arc up on CNC model (works fine when using it manually)

I have checked the wiring to the ports 1 & 2 on the plasma machine and have re-wired/resoldered to make sure there is no issue there.

I am using Openbuilds and when setting the 'torch on command' (M3) the light on the relay comes on so i'm fairly content that's ok.

The table runs the profile of the job correctly just with no actual arcing & cutting!

Has anyone got any pointers on what to check?

I have read about by passing the safety switch on the torch but would have thought the cnc mode would do that?

Think I may have found the issue - JD Garage direct the use of a 5V relay and I have 12V installed. Must have not noticed the difference when I transferred their amazon.com BOM to amazon.co.uk to order.

5V is on the way - fingers crossed.

sounds good keep after it you will do a happy dance when it starts cutting. That will open a big world for you with all the now projects you can start.
As a test you do now short the 2 wires on the relay contact (output wires) and it should fire the torch, this will insure the plasma unit is correctly setup. You may be able to use the drag shield to add ohmic sensor to you you setup after you get things working, as long as it is electrically isolated from the plasma unit.

If you have the out[uts of your relay (NO) across the torch switch it should fire. Same as activating the switch on the hand torch. A lot of plasmas with a rear CNC connection lock out firing a hand torch from the CNC connector.

I could be wrong but I think the IPT60 hand torch may require you to zip tie the trigger closed for it to fire. I am not familiar with the Rtech plasma at all, in fact never heard of it before, so I may be way off but worth looking into. Can test by using acourtjesters suggestion of crossing the trigger wires to see if it fires with or without the trigger closed.
