Im having issues adding single cut lines to a smudge pot. The air vents are what I'm having issues with. I'll attach an svg. When I union them and then difference them, It closes the shape which would result in the vent falling out instead of being bent in after cutting. Does it have something to do with stroke width ?
Dont mind the Cross at the top...nothing is final yet..

Re: Adding single cut lines
let me elaborate....if I just use the combine function, it seems to work, but the cut lines dont show up in normal view with a fill..

Re: Adding single cut lines
So here is a near finished version...unless I change my mind which could happen. The only thing I havent figured out yet are the open path lines for the vents. I cant get them added to the drawing so that they display as a "cut" within inkscape. If I switch to normal view with a black Fill, they dont show. Do I just need to change the stroke to white in the open paths? I really dont think thats the fix or the right way. They do seem open properly in the MyPlasm software but I'd really like to figure out how to get the "normal" view to look proper within inkscape.

Re: Adding single cut lines
Note: The process described below is for visual effect only. Your drawing is fine as is, just consider the outline mode view as what you will get when cut. The process below will create narrow closed paths - which is what you need to be able to see them in Normal viewing mode. But if you cut them that way, you will have a double cut and this is probably not what you would want.

Re: Adding single cut lines
Here is how it would look if cut. Notice that you have many islands in the center that would fall out when cut. This part of your drawing needs some attention.

Re: Adding single cut lines in Inkscape
Single cut line problem resolved. Had some concerns about the chimney being one piece with 3 bends. I think I'd be better off having it 2 pieces with one bend in the middle of each for ease of assembly.. I was experimenting with trying to "cut" the part in half with limited success. I'm not sure if there's a quick and easy way to be sure everything stays square..?

It the file above the one you are asking about? Or is this a different project? If yes, then perhaps share some drawings or the file so we can take a look.
