It was recently pointed out to me by Dave Hanks ( and confirmed by Tom) that the latest Inkscape release, Version 1.2.1, now will import/open DXF R14 format files.
Previous versions will only import DXF R13 format, so the usual procedure was to use a program such as LightBurn to import the existing DXF R14 file and export in SVG format for import to Inkscape. Other programs such as CorelDraw will save as DXF R13 so this was not a problem for those users.
Both Dave and Tom stated that they were having difficulties with the imported DXF R14 file dimensions as shown in Inkscape not matching up with the original DXF R14 file.
I have just installed the new Inkscape Version 1.2.1 and here is an example of a simple DXF R14 file created with Design Edge and imported to the new Inkscape version.
To scale properly, when importing/opening the DXF R14 file, under the heading "Method of Scaling" select the option for "Read from File".

Thanks David. I have had that happen in regard to what they are saying for the bug fix. Very frustrating.

One thing I did notice with the new version of Inkscape you need to place you drawing in the lower left corner (X0.0 and Y 0.0) of the page for it to appear in the lower left of SheetCam. With the older versions you did not need to place it there, what ever was saved (drawing) it placed it with the X0.0 and Y0.0 as its starting point.

I really dislike change. I downloaded this version. 2 things. How do I get the tool backround to be light and not dark. 2 where did my snap tools go. They were on top and now I dont see them. I went to document properties for the darkness stuff but nothing changes.

Ok answering my own question for others: Edit Global Preferences =====> Theming(is that even a word) then uncheck dark theme.
I found the snap tool. Upper right hand corner just below the minimize selection. Not liking the single icon. I have to click it to get into it. Seems like there are more snapping accouterments. Still playing around.
