Inkscape - How to convert text for cutting

Post by adbuch »

I received this question from a fellow member:

"Next question lol, when adding text to an item on Inkscape it doesn't show on the "cut" display. Any ideas?"

I am assuming that when he says "cut" display he is referring to what he is seeing when he opens his file with Sheetcam to create his cut paths.
Here is my solution.

I can't tell you how many times I have forgot to ===> Object to Path. Even non text files. I know right away when I do a "new Part" in sheet cam and see crazy stuff all over the place. Also, for me anyway, equally important is the "Object Combine". That too will "skew" your hole locations and such in sheet cam. Example. Making a square flange with 4 bolt holes and forgetting to "object combine" will skew the holes or put them where you don't want them.

AS TJS said that would be my first suggestion. A easy check is to click on the node too and move around the drawing. it will change the line color if it is a path, and if you click on an item it will show the nodes. I also like to remove the fill to see what the cut path actually look like.

That's a handy way to do it. Thanks Tom!
