New here, looking for fonts and files

Post by Lowp »

Good Morning,

new here, first post. I am a contributing member as of last night, which gives me access to a free pack of dxf files. I never received a link or a download for the files? Does anyone know how I get access to the pack?

Also looking for the "10,000 font" package. I found posts from several years ago but nothing recently. Does the font package still exist from Plasmaspider?

Thanks for any info!

What do you plan to do with so many fonts? What kinds of things are you making? Are you selling items online, or at vendor booths or craft fairs?

Tell me about your table, and your software.

Welcome aboard! Hopefully Justin will reach out to you with the information on your free dxf file collection. I seem to remember someone else asking about that free font package - and to the best of my knowledge it is no longer available. However, there are many sources for free font downloads.

Here are several more sources. I seem to recall that Tom had some pretty good sources as well. He listed them in one of his posts, I bookmarked the link - but now can't find it.

I have a Crossfire XL table and an Everlast 52i plasma cutter.

Currently just making things for myself and friends/family, samples basically. My intent is to make and sell (locally) signs, parts, etc. I don't really need 10k fonts, just like the idea of so many at my fingertips. I have used Dafont, but looks like adbuch has provided several more good options below.

I agree with Lowp - the more fonts, the better! Same thing with money.

The sign industry uses MAYBE six different standard fonts for signs. Yes, there are plenty of proprietary fonts for various purposes ... "Raiders of the Lost Ark," "Back to the Future," "Burger King" etc., etc.

In the 80s when 'desktop publishing' became the rage, society became font monsters. They made birthday cards and school fliers, and banners and everything, using the most FUNKY fonts they could find. The fanfold paper, the inkjet printers ... it all gave birth to FONTS!

My best advice to the OP is, when you create anything using ANY font, make a note of the name of the font, the size, and any alterations you did to the font such as BOLD, Italic, Stretch, Slant, Size, etc. and INCLUDE that information in the file you create. Otherwise, six months later when you want to recreate the thing with the funky font or make a different sign using the same font, you will be frantically searching for the font you used, being unable to recall the name.

Also, remember to think about fonts like shapes. Some fonts look GREAT on paper, but trying to reproduce them on a cnc plasma table or using a cnc router at some point in the future then becomes a real nightmare. So THINK about all of the ways this font may be displayed, and ask yourself, "Will this work with (name of process)?"

Good luck in your scavenger hunt for FONTS. I have about 172,000 of them, but they are just a jumble of various libraries I have collected, and I will probably die, never having used 99.9% of them!

I personally feel the less fonts the better. I hate having to scroll through a long list of fonts I have never used and never will use just to get to a good one.

I strip my font folder down to only fonts I actually use and add new fonts to it if the need arises for a font I don't have. MUCH nicer :Like :Like
