problems with inkscape

Post by Joe243672 »

I need some help for some reason i cant trace this image in inkscape. Can someone put this in svg format for me please. Also can someone recomend a good tutrial videos or package that teaches inkscape. I am having nothing but problems. Even trying to manuel trace the lines just want to snap in there own places. When i try and auto trace it only picks up half the lines. I updated inkscape on linux and now i am having tons of problems with it.

I am not an Inkscape user but I imported your image into Corel and noticed the lines are not so crisp, no measurements, the angles on the left and right side are not the same, etc. If I were to do an exact trace of this it would not be accurate or symmetrical. Maybe it does't need to be but in my opinion this is a simply drawing that should be drawn using dimensions and not traced from an image. Is this a panel that is supposed to fit something? Are measurements and angles not critical at all?

This image does not lend itself well to doing an Inkscape auto trace using "Path, Trace Bitmap". The manual trace is easy to do using the "Draw Bezier curves and straight lines" tool. That is how I did the one above.

Logos by Nick has an excellent set of Inkscape tutorials. It is well worth he $17 cost of the course.
I paid for it and have gone thru some of the lessons, and the rest of what I know about using Inkscape is just from trial and error along with a few tips from fellow members. I fully intend to complete the course when I get some "free time", but the main thing is that after going thru the lessons you will need to practice with some sample drawings and your skill level will increase with time.

You can turn the snapping option on of off. I would recommend clicking on he button to disable it if you are having problems with it snapping to random locations while you are manually tracing.

There are things in Inkscape that will help when drawing items for cutting. There are guide lines that can be pulled out from the top and left side to help with line lengths. When you want to rotate a line of drawing you double click to get the rotating arrows and the angle is show on the bottom.
In Doc properties you can reduce the distance that the snaps will be effective, to far can be a pain to work with. If snaps are used with line ends when drawing it will connect them together. And the align and distribute can help to arrange lines or items in the drawing. I like to used thicker line widths when drawing as they are easier to see and when down I will reduce them to about 0.005" for more precise dimensions. See attached images
