Re: football team badge
I know what you want, and I opened your file with Inkscape, but I'm really not an Inkscape user - so I will defer to Tom or one of the other Inkscape experts here. Ideally this could be converted to dxf format for further editing. A real expert with Inkscape could do it all from within Inkscape. This will be a chance for me to learn from some of the others.

Re: football team badge
Checked it out in Corel and its a bit of a mess. Looks like an autotrace result which are often more work to make usable than just tracing it manually. I was able to clean it up a little but ran out of time this morning. Hope this helps, pretty much need to bridge the letters and fix up the flower.

Re: football team badge
I don't believe this is the result of an auto-trace. It looks more like original artwork to me. But thanks for spending your time to work on it with Corel Draw. I have an older version of Corel Draw (I think it is version 7) on one of my old computers and had thought about trying to open it with that - but I am not a Corel Draw user either. I was hoping that Tom would step up and show us how to edit this with Inkscape to create a usable dxf file. I will send him a PM to see if he can take a look at it. This is more for my education, and that of others using Inkscape. At this point - now that you have provided the dxf - it is all "down hill" and a very simple matter to edit to a cuttable file. I will go ahead and do that later this evening.

Re: football team badge
It could very well be the original David but if I view it in wire frame mode without the color fill its a mess which led me to believe this was traced from a bitmap image.

Re: football team badge
Is the one on the left "wire frame mode"? I wouldn't exactly say it is a mess. But it does look like the some of it - the letters in particular - were hand drawn, and not imported as a font type. I would say that the original artist did a pretty good job. I assume this artwork was originally intended to be printed, or maybe silk-screened onto t-shirts and such. The wire frame would be much easier to deal with as far as converting to dxf format. Very interesting!

Re: football team badge
Here is a comparison of the dxf files to the OP supplied photo. It is pretty clear that the badge in the photo is different as far as the shape of the top portion, some of the cuts, and other details. Although it looks similar, my guess is the the person who created and cut the yellow badge shown in the photo created his own particular version incorporating the over-all design of the "original artwork", but adding his own flavor/twist to the details. So to achieve an exact copy of the yellow one would require a combination of hand tracing along with possibly incorporating some elements of the existing dxf files in to achieve the final result.

Re: football team badge
Here is the result of my effort to recreate this using a combination of manual tracing of a portion of the yellow photo plus the dxf from the auto trace of the wire frame image supplied by Plasmanewbie. I found the auto trace of his wire frame to be slightly cleaner than the dxf file he posted from Corel Draw. This file should be ready to cut after scaling to the desired size.

Re: football team badge
Good Morning all, I looked at the file and have a video showing some things i found. I have unloaded it to the Google drive and will post it soon as they have checked it over so I can give the link for other to view it. I will continue to work on the Plaque to get a useable DXF file so it can be cut. I was able to find an image of the team shield and have a Jpeg to work with. I will produce a video showing what I do to help other who want to do similar projects. This should be done later today.

Re: football team badge
the other video is made and uploaded to the Google drive when it clears I will post the link.
In the video I talk about using the outline function you can also use the fill and stroke just remove the fill to get the outline of the drawing, that is where you would also select the line thickness I use about 0.005" for plasma.

Re: football team badge
Here is the tutorial I made showing how to do tracings with Inkscape. It only deals with the tracing and manipulation of the traced item to complete a project. I did use the badge shown in the video but did not attach a finished DXF file, the video show how to do it.

Re: football team badge
Tom - thanks for taking your time to help explain how to use Inkscape to deal with this sort of file. I will study them and let you know if I have questions. And hopefully others will learn from this as well. There are always at least several method to achieve a goal, and I feel it is good to learn about as many different ways to do this as one can.
Thanks,
David

Re: football team badge
Chris - this one is finished and ready to cut. I posted it above, but will include it here so there is no confusion. It is pretty close to the artwork you supplied, but with the top center portion manually traced from your photo of the yellow one. Please show us the finished product after you cut and finish it.

The current size is around 10" tall. What size do you need?

Re: football team badge
Here it is in svg format. This will be easier to work with if you want to use Inkscape. You can open with Inkscape, resize, and save as dxf to import to Sheetcam.

What has not been talked about yet is a layered badge, cutting inside parts and stacking to make a great looking badge your buddies will envy.

Re: football team badge
Tom - that is a great idea, particularly for the original artwork file. Are you thinking 3 layers, or? How would you break it up for each layer?acourtjester wrote: ↑Sun Oct 17, 2021 9:44 am What has not been talked about yet is a layered badge, cutting inside parts and stacking to make a great looking badge your buddies will envy.
