Need Assistance Please -Moving a traced design

Hi. I've been trying to learn Inkscape and have read every tutorial on here.
I have figured out the tracing and saving.
My problem is this - when I move the trace off of the original and delete the original
I put a highlight box around my new trace, but I can't move it without doing a cut and paste.
This will allow me to move it, but only once or I have to cut & paste it again.

With the highlight box still on, do 'object to path'. Should be able to move it then.
