Combining text to a solid rectangle

Post by Searchman »

I want to combine text to a solid rectangle bar, so when it is cut on a CNC plasma table the letters and solid bar are one. I have searched the Web on this subject and found videos with similar applications. Most videos are not done very well. Either the audio is distorted with background music or the person doing the video is jumping the curser around so fast it is difficult to follow what the demonstrator is actually doing. A typed instruction step by step would be so helpful.

I'll give it a try. Move the text down to the bar - just so the bottom of the text is into the bar. Next us your mouse and draw around the bar and text. Next go to path and select combine. Then you should be able to move the unit as one.

It would be a lot better if you let us know what software you will be using to draw it. That way someone with the same software could give you a step by step.

Ok with Inkscape you would have the text laid out and then draw a box, move the box up to touch the bottom of the letters.
This is done without either being a path, Clip on one then hold the shift key and click on the other. then move to the path menu and go down to the union and click on it. This will unite them together then click on "fill/stroke and remove the fill and click on the stroke and make the stroke thickness you want.(very small for plasma cutting 0.005") when you do this they will now have a path.
