Torch dragging

Post by Brendog44 »

Hi there, trying to cut thin mild steel at 2.5mm but the torch seems to be dragging itself around rather than cutting at its normal level. Also the dthc isn't lifting the torch up. Only seems to be an issue on the thinner sheets still seems to be cutting 6mm and above okay. Does anyone know a fix for the problem.

Thanks.

A "little" information on your system would be the first step.

If it cuts thicker material okay then its a setting. Its trying to keep the voltage DOWN . With no info on what settings you ae using, what kind of torch/plasma, what consumables, etc, etc
What does it do if you turn off the THC ? What is the actual torch volts during a cut with the THC disabled?

That is a signal from the Hypertherm and its sensed by a small switch at the retaining cap. Being loose can cause that. The RS485 interface to the Hypertherm sends the message back to the control screen. It just reports what it gets from the Hypertherm electronics.
