Sheetcam questions

Hi guys,

I'm pretty new to sheetcam and when I import a multi part drawing from autocad, all of the parts are bound together and I cant move them across for better nesting, also is there an auto nesting feature? If I want to increase the number of parts being nested do I just ctrl c / ctrl p? or is there a way to enter a given value?

Sorry there is no auto nesting, you can array parts with gap and spacing dimensions, that works well in nesting mode right click and choose array parts.

You can sometimes break up a multi part file as below, I have had some files it doesn't work on though.

Its better to bring in one part at a time if you want to do nesting or move the parts individually/ I don't know if you can export part of a drawing (selected items) like you can in some of the drawing programs/ Its better to do nesting on multi part cuts in SheetCAM where you can put different parts on different layers and cut them using different rules or tools if you want. You might try using Inkscape to import the big DXF then break it apart and export separate objects as SVG direct to SheetCAM. You might have to try older DXF file types to get something Inkscape can open.

I draw the sheet size as a rectangle and nest the parts in Autocad, then save as 2000dxf and import into Sheetcam. Assign tools and process.

Hi guys
Is it possible to bring mutable drawings in sheetcam so I can nest them on one sheet instead of individual one at a time or do I have to do that in my cad program. When I bring a new drawing in sheet cam goes to a new screen with the latest import and doesn't show the drawing before that.

Instead of just going to file->import drawing, use File->new part. Now import your drawing into that new part.

Well that was easy enough. Thanks for the quick reply and help on something so basic that I should know by now. I been using sheetcam for more than a year now and didn't know how to do this. Les Newell your the best, thanks again Gary
